Compliance basics

Rules worth knowing by market

MarketWhat to check
United Kingdom & EUIf customers can order food online for delivery or collection (distance selling), mandatory allergen information must be available before the order is completed and again at delivery. In the UK, the Food Information Regulations apply; in the EU, Regulation (EU) 1169/2011.
United StatesChains with 20 or more locations must show calorie information on menus, including online menus. For everyone else, clear allergen and dietary labels are good practice.
Saudi ArabiaThe Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) requires restaurants and cafés to display calorie information on menus, and has rules on allergen information. Check the current requirements for online menus.
UAE & GulfMenu and food information rules are set by local authorities (for example Dubai Municipality). Bilingual English/Arabic menus are common and appreciated.

These notes are a starting point, not legal advice. Rules change and vary by state, emirate and country, so please confirm the details with your regulator or professional body. We'll build whatever your compliance requires.

FAQ

Restaurants & cafés: common questions

Can I update the menu myself?

Tell us at the start if you want to edit prices and dishes yourself, and we'll plan the build around that. Otherwise a care plan covers updates for you.

Should my menu be a PDF?

We recommend an HTML menu. It loads faster on phones, is easier to read, can be found by search engines, and can be translated. You can still offer a PDF download.

Can you make a bilingual English/Arabic site?

Yes. Arabic and bilingual websites with right-to-left layout are scoped with you.

How much does a restaurant website cost?

$150 for the first page and $50 for each extra page. A one-page site with menu, hours and booking can start at $150. The homepage demo is free.
